Fit for Work is a Government-funded initiative, designed to support people in work with health conditions and help with sickness absence. Being in work is an important contributor to good health. The longer someone is off sick, the harder it is for them to get back to work. Research suggests that being out of work for long periods of time is damaging to social and financial well-being, and health.


Fit for Work is a new voluntary service that offers the wider working population access to occupational health advice and support to all employers across England and Wales. You can now refer employees who have been off work for four weeks or more for a free Fit for Work referral on their website. Fit for Work offers free, expert and impartial work-related health advice to all.

Association of Wheelchair Children

The Association of Wheelchair Children's mission is to enable wheelchair-using children throughout the UK to reach their full potential. Their primary objective is to enable independence by providing practical wheelchair skills training, assessment and support to young wheelchair-users and their families. They also work to raise awareness and understanding of disability issues, particularly those relating to wheelchair-using young people. Currently they have two teams of full time qualified therapists run over 100 training and assessment days all over the UK. Where they find young people in chairs unsuitable for independent mobility they will make sure that they receive a suitable wheelchair upgrade free of charge from the NHS after AWC has trained them. They will then back this up with ongoing advice, advocacy and support. AWC also provides training for professionals who may work with young wheelchair-users and they have begun a programme of awareness raising in schools and colleges.

 Wyre Forest Nightstop and Mediation is part of Nightstop UK - a network of 33 accredited Nightstop throughout the UK - each providing safe, emergency accommodation in volunteers' homes for homeless young people aged 16-25. The first Nightstop opened in Leeds in 1987.
